SOMI (Songea-Mississippi) is a non-governmental organization dedicated to education and culture.  The primary offices of SOMI will be located in southern Tanzania in the municipality of Songea.  SOMI aims to build a first-class center of education and culture in Songea and to build intercultural connections and exchanges between southern Tanzania and the southern United States (specifically the region of Ruvuma in Tanzania and the state of Mississippi in the United States).

SOMI was established under the leadership of Mr. Damas D. Ndumbaro, an independent legal advocate in Tanzania, and Dr. Julian M. Murchison, an assistant professor of anthropology and sociology at Millsaps College in the United States.  They currently serve as leaders of SOMI’s board of directors.
